Wednesday's Hodgepodge

1. Have you ever written a love letter? Have you written one recently? Had one written to you? Did you keep it?
I've written scores of love letters in my time and hubby and I used to write to one another all the time. It's been a while since we've written a love letter with anything other than our phone texts. Maybe it's about time! When I met Johnny all love letters and so forth we're trashed. My love life began the day I met him so the only love letters I have are from him. I have all his letters tucked away safely in a blue glittery wrapped shoe box in my closet.

2. What's a movie that ends in a way you especially love?
One of my favorties is Sound of Music. I love the musical and I especially love how the family escapes from the Nazis over the mountains into Switzerland. I love it even more now that I've been there and seen where it was filmed. We took this photo of the Swiss Alps when we were in Salzburg, Austria. Amazing! If you're a lover like me; I blogged about our trip with lots photos from our trip to Salzburg and the site of the filming of Sound of Music.

3. Something that makes your heart sing? And for those of you who are parents, I mean something besides your children that makes your heart sing?
My first thought is my husband Johnny. He makes my heart sing! Honestly, he really does make me often question what I did to deserve someone who loves me as much as he does. His depth of love for me keeps me in awe. He makes my heart sing!

4. What's the last event you had to attend, phone call you had to make, routine task you needed to complete, or meal you had to prepare, that you did do, but only half-heartedly?
Oh wow, as ashamed as I am about this it was last weeks Sunday School lesson. I ran out of time and didn't prepare at all like I should have. Our preschoolers learned about the death of Moses and Joshua becoming the leader of Israel and honestly I could have prepared much more.

5. Tuna fish salad-yay or blech? If you said yay, how do you like your tuna salad prepared? Hey, this is the Hodgepodge, right? I love tuna salad! YAY! I like my tuna with no onions and with pickles, mayo, small cubes of cheese and a little mustard. Yes, I know that's not tuna salad but that's how I like it!

6. What's something you 'know by heart'?
I know almost all of John chapter 1 by heart. We started memorizing it years ago with our children and for some crazy stupid reason we stopped just a few verses shy of finishing it.

7. In the spirit of Valentine's Day, what two or three word phrase would you write on a conversation heart for someone you love? That someone could be a spouse, child, parent, cousin, bestie...anyone at all whom you love.
For my Johnny - I'd choose you again
For my daughter - You light up my life
For my son Cody - Your hugs are best
For my son Joshua - You make me happy
For my bestie - Sisters by choice
For Jesus - Thank you!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Yesterday was really hard after realizing that we had a major problem. Not just a problem but a major, future changing, kind of problem. I was reminded just how good God is. When our backs are against the wall and it seems like there isn't an answer we have to remember that God knows. He wasn't surpised by our problem and He's not worried. We don't have an answer right now to how to solve this problem but we know that God does. When in doubt, DON'T DO ANYTHING! Wait on the Lord. Trust Him to use this situation for His good. That's what we're doing.
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. Psalm 27:14

From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:2

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.    John 14:1

  1. I love Salzburg...such a charming city, and we're big fans of The Sound of Music too. It was fun to see the movie sites : ) I'm glad you find peace in the midst of a hard thing, and will add this to my prayers today. Take care.

    1. Joyce, if you were in Salzburg you were only 7 hours from my house! We're south of Austria.

  2. Stopping in from Hodge Podge...loved the responses you gave...and I too LOVE Sound of Music. I am a huge fan of the classic musicals. My daughter and SIL are missionaries in Moldova. They are part of Stella's Voice and they work in orphanages in Moldova. I will add you and your husband to my prayer list. God Bless You.

  4. I like this:

" We don't have an answer right now to how to solve this problem but we know that God does. When in doubt, DON'T DO ANYTHING! Wait on the Lord."

I've also heard it said, "When you don't know what to do, don't do it!"

God is faithful. God is good.

  5. I love the song, I'd Choose You Again, Tori and I truly do mean it as my husband is my best friend. Prayers for whatever you are facing right now...As you said, God is in Control, a comforting thought to me when I am at the end of myself. And really that is a Good Thing isn't it? Too often I find myself wanting to take control and FIX things.

  6. I enjoyed your answers! Your tuna salad sounds very good except I would have to have some mayo in it. I hope you can get your problem figured out. Good plan to wait on God for the answer.

  7. I have never been to Salzburg, but I'd sure love to go one day and see the Alps myself. So beautiful! Love those verses! I, too, continue to trust in God's infinite wisdom. Hope whatever situation you're facing gets resolved soon.

  8. Awww, that's so sweet that your husband makes your heart sing--that's how it should be! The photo is stunning, and I am a huge fan of Sound of Music. I think that's a sound track I know by heart. :) God is certainly
    "
able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or even think. "

  9. What a great picture of the Alps! Wow! I would love to go there and see that area. I had never considered adding cheese to my tuna. It sounds like something I need to try. Thanks for sharing!

  10. Love those verses! And I must confess to being seriously jealous of your Sound of Music touring! That is on my bucket list while we are stationed here in Germany. It is not a far drive to Salzburg, I just haven't made it happen yet :-( I just can't wait to do it, and you have inspired me to make it happen!

My kids also prefer putting mustard in their tuna salad. My other son puts hot sauce on his. So glad to have 'met' you today!

    1. Kay,
It is so worth the drive to see Salzburg. The place is amazing not to mention all the SOM stuff. We took a hop on and off bus tour and loved seeing all the sites. My daughter skipped down the road like Maria in front of the actual house, it was cool.

  11. I appreciate the verses you shared at the end.

In our early dating days of college we emailed back and forth. I thought to save some of those emails (forwarded them to a new account), and I like to go back and read them now and what we said to each other in those beginning days.

  12. Tori, I enjoyed reading all of your answers today. I was a Preschool SS teacher/director/music specialist and can attest to the fact that teachers of preschoolers realize in a heartbeat when they are prepared less than they desire. I appreciate your desire to be fully prepared when you teach these precious gifts from God. Also, I can relate to your random response. God has taught me in the last two years to wait. Pray, release and wait. He is in control! May God bless as you put your situation in His Hands and leave it there. Thank you for the beautiful, reassuring scriptures.

  13. Reading your post made me realize that this generation probably won't have ANY love letters to save! It'll all be through texts. In fact, the only actual love note besides cards from my husband were through email. He didn't have email access and (bless him) can't type to save his life. :) So one day he came to my parents when I wasn't there and somehow sent me an email from myself. So sweet. Sorry you have life-changing news. If it is missionary-wise, some friends of ours on deputation for one country just got news that ALL doors for religion have been closed there by the gov't and strictly enforced. Talk about upsetting "their" plans. :(

    1. How funny that your husband used your email to send you an email. He must be very thoughtful. I'm so sorry to hear about the mission field closing, Praise the Lord we don't have to worry about that because we have permanent residence here but I know that's a real problem in the world. I'm thankful that God is already working out our problem here.

  15. Loved your picture and your conversation heart messages!
If there is one thing I have learned about the Lord, when you have a problem, HE SHOWS UP! Praying for you today.

  16. The Sound of Music has always been my favorite.

Cheese lover that I am, I never considered putting it in tuna ... hmmm.... may need to test that one out!

You are right to wait on the Lord. I have always felt that until I get a word from the Lord that I KNOW is from Him, I keep doing what I've been doing.

  17. Wonderful to hear a woman speak so lovingly of her husband! These days it seems we hear a lot of complainers. I too love The Sound of Music - the original, of course, and I too memorized most of the first chapter of John but didn't remember to list it. I love that passage!

  18. Sound of Music is my very most favorite movie ever. I think I could watch it every day! Love your #7...especially the Thank You to Jesus. And these words from #8 are such wise counsel, my friend, "When in doubt, DON'T DO ANYTHING! Wait on the Lord. Trust Him to use this situation for His good"

  19. I enjoy tuna salad every once in a great while but rarely make it.

I had that experience with lessons many time when teaching SS or children's church, to my shame.

I am so sorry about your major problem and pray God will guide you in what to do and provide for all that is needed.

  20. What a fun post, Tori :-) I enjoyed getting the miscellany on you. And I'm praying about the "major problem" -- I so appreciate those reminders to wait on the Lord. We want to take action to relieve the pressure or solve the problem, but you are so right to wait in the moment of doubt.

  21. Thank you SO much for your kind comment and visit earlier today! I am so happy you found me because I LOVE finding other sisters-in-Christ:) Beautiful photo of the Alps! Many years ago my sibling also visited the area Sound of Music was filmed in and loved it too. Your #8 and Bible verses especially blessed me this eve--it has not been a good week.
    Blessings, Aimee
