Sew and So!

Okay so today I took some time and did a little stitching. I have been meaning to make this shopping bag that Debbie posted about over at HOMEMAKING DREAMS and I finally did. Debbie does a wonderful job of explaining every step in detail and it really works just like she shows.

I used some old fabric I've been holding onto for ever and I like it! It's the perfect size. Also it'll be great considering we live in Europe. What does that matter you ask? Well in most stores in Europe you have to buy your grocery bags so it'll be great to have one that is reusable and looks nice and crafty.

Thanks Debbie for a great tutorial!Oh guess what a friend gave me ... all this super cool upholstery material. A local furniture store close and her cousin gave her all these swatches of fabric and leather. So anyhow, I'm showing you this so you can give me some ideas on what to use them for. The small leather ones are about 12'' x 6'' and the larger ones are about15 x 15 inches. I was thinking about using them for maybe shopping bags or even pillow covers. Dunnno, but I thought you gals would have some great ideas, can't wait!

  1. You should be very proud of yourself! That bag looks great! I love the fabric and it turned out perfectly. They really are easy to make and end up being very sturdy. I am so happy that you were able to make use of the tutorial and that it was accurate. I have been making 3 or 4 a week lately. I've gotten it down to where it takes me about an hour to make one. I'm probably not the fasted person in the world.

Thanks Tori for letting me know you made the bag. You made my day. Now you can throw 2 or 3 more of these bags with no trouble and you'll be all set at the grocery store.

Have fun, no matter what you make with them!

  6. How neat. Wish I could sew better and learn to sew from a pattern. That is a good idea. I have been trying to use my cloth bags from Wal-Mart when I shop because I am sick of all the plastic bags everywhere. They are so much sturdier and hold more and are actually easier to carry even when heavy. What a blessing from your friend also. My sister would be jealous. She collects materials to keep for sewing and other projects.

  7. I love that bag. I use those ugly, super strong, huge bags you can buy that are reusable. Like the blue ones from IKEA. Now, I love IKEA and all, but I'd rather not advertise for them...at least not for free anyway. So...once again... I'm jealous.

  9. Nice bag.

    That's no bag that's my ...

I'm so glad I found your site. Missionaries are a great source of what's going on around the world, stuff that the MSM don't report. Looks like you and those links on the left will provide me a wealth of information.

  10. I've been meaning to make one of Debbie's bags. Now that I see how nicely yours turned out, I'm going to get to that soon!
For the scraps, you might want to check out the blog "Sew, Mama, Sew." She has a ton of tutorials over there! I'm thinking tissue holders, wallets, and credit card holders, to start. You could also make little fabric boxes or buckets. If I got a stash like that, I'd be in heaven!

  13. Hey Tori! Thanks for stopping by and saying hi! I love the shopping bag! You did a great job and the fabric is so cute. It's so cheerful! These would come in handy here in the US for those who shop at Aldi or Save-A-Lot. You have to buy your bags there, too!
Thanks so much for featuring me! I'm honored! :)
