Rain, Rain Go Away!!

I know how much we need rain for good, healthy crops but I'm so tired of the clouds and rain. It's been so gloomy around here lately and I tend to feel a bit depressed without the sun for several days, kinda how I feel when I try to make it without the Son for a couple days.

We haven't been doing much outside for a few weeks so I've been busy looking for things to do, not like I don't have enough with school and all but still.

Oh yea, yesterday we went to visit the national preacher and his family, they're very special to us. Anyhow as custom in Croatia I needed to take something when we went and so I opened my cook book. You know what I decided to make, Snickerdoodles, the most under-rated cookie in the world. I've seen them many times but they always looked so boring, well I made some and do you know what, they were delicious. The whole family loved them and they were gone before I knew it. Snickerdoodles
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the shortening and 1 1/2 cups of white sugar until smooth. Stir in the eggs one at a time, blending well after each. Combine the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt; stir into the batter until blended.
  3. Roll the dough into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll in a mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned, but still soft.
Enjoy!

Hannah and I have been doing some sewing lately. She's getting pretty good at following instructions and sewing so today she made a cute little book bag. I really want her to learn how to be a good homemaker and sewing happens to be one of the skills that will help her.

Oh yea and I did a little sewing too. The national pastor's wife just moved their 4 kids into one big room. She painted the walls a lime green and then the furniture is pink, purple, blue and green. Ljubica, the national's wife was looking for a nice way to dress up the window that was covered with simple lace curtains so today I used this tutorial and made some bunting to go over the window. This picture doesn't really show how cute the bunting is but it's so cute. I used bias tape to sew them to and it turned out really cute.

This bunting is a great way to dress up a child's room. Have fun!

Hope you all have a great Lord's day tomorrow!!

  5. Sis Tori,
Snickerdoodles are wonderful cookies. In the future if you want to make them a little brighter you can use colored sugar or you can roll them in sprinkles and they taste just as good.
Hannah's book bag looks really good. I am so thankful that my mother taught me how to sew.

You asked about the sermons online...try going here. The church's website is gatewayjubilee.com You can check that out when you can. But their download site for audio and video is here

I don't know that Saturday's sermon is on there yet, but they have several others to keep you occupied until they get it on.

  14. Oh, I don't think snickerdoodles are underrated... well, at least, not by ME! They are my absolute FAVORITE cookies in the world -- they are just sometimes stuck in the shadows of the chocolate chip cookie who gets wayyyyy too much attention, LOL! :P

I use half butter and half shortening in my cookies; makes them nice and soft, but still have some great flavor :~) And, for Christmas, you should try rolling the dough in a combination of sugar and nutmeg -- makes 'em taste like egg nog! YUM, YUM, YUM!

You are doing such a great job teaching your Hannah some valuable skills for her future home. I wish someone had been able to teach me to sew. Too bad we don't live closer -- you could give me some lessons! :P

Oh, and p.s. my b-day is not on the 26th, so we don't share the exact same birthday (mine is the 24th), but at least we share a birthweek! :~)

Snickerdoodles were always my husband's favorite cookies. For my wedding shower, his mom gave me a cookie sheet, cooling rack, and a framed recipe for snickerdoodles! They're not under-rated around here!

  21. Hi,

You do not know me, but let me explain. I am Samuel Morton's Mother. He met you and your family at Grace Baptist Church in Louisburg, NC last year. He would like to call and talk to Joshua, if it will be okay with you. They were emailing for a while. If it is okay, please let me know. My email is memorton@nc.rr.com. Is the vontage phone number the correct one. Thank you and may God bless you and your family. We will be praying for your work in Croatia.
