Friday's Fave Five

Hey Guys! Can't believe it's already Friday. January is speeding by at light speed! Today I'm joining Susanne over at Living to Tell the Story for her Friday's Fave Five. I was reading hers this morning and found it hard to find 5 blessings for this week then I realized that I need to spend some time contemplating how good God is and has been this week, so here I am!

1. Loved one coming back! This week I was shocked to find out that someone for whom we've been praying finally had that moment when they realized enough was enough. I can't tell you how long we've been praying and finally a huge answer to our prayers. We're so excited to see what God will do over the next year with this person. Praise the Lord, He's always waiting for us to come back!

2. I realized this week how blessed I am to have a true best girlfriend. It's a rare thing to find someone who will love you and stick with you through thick and thin. Amanda has been my best friend, or more like my sister for the last 20 years. She's a pastor's wife in Texas and is one of the most real people I know. I love her and i'm thankful for the opportunity to be her best friend.

3 Amazing weather!! I can't believe it's already January but to top that, it's in the 60s today!! That's crazy for this part of Europe. We're just south of the Alps and we're usually sloshing through the snow right about now. I washed my sheets and duvet today and hung my pillows out to air out, in Jauary!! Crazy but awesome!

4. Grandma Agatha is a member of our church and is the biggest hoot I know. She has an amazing amount of life in her for a 75 year old and she keeps us rolling all the time. Yesterday in the car she was cracking us up. She and Hannah have this ongoing playful rivalry and I love watching them. the Lord said that if we were to follow Him we would have to forsake all including family. It's been hard over the years to watch our children miss their family and especially grandparents in the States but I'm so thankful for the family and Grands that God has given us here in Croatia. Not only do we have family in the States but we have a large, loving family here too!
Matthew 19:29  And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
5. My last fave today is my Bible. I'm amazed that a single book could contain the wisdom of all time. It's a living Book! It never changes but It seems to always be new. I'm so thankful that God have us His thoughts. He chose to leave us a manual to love by and not leave us wandering with no direction. I love my King James Bible and I'm so thankful to know that It is complete Truth!! I never have to wonder!
I have this poem taped in the front cover of my Bible and it perfectly describes the Amazing Book!

God's Treasure

There is a treasure,
Rich beyond measure,
Offered to mortals today;
Some folks despise it,
Some criticize it,
Some would explain it away.

Some never read it,
Some never head it,
Some say, "It's long had it's day";
Some people prize it,
And he who tries it,
Finds it's his comfort and stay.

God gave this treasure,
Rich beyond measure,
His Word, we call it today.
Let us believe it,
Gladly receive it,
Read, mark and learn to obey.
                              -A.M.N.

Thanks to Susanne over at Living to Tell the Story for Friday's Fave Five. It was good to sit and actually write about some of the blessings of this week! God sure is good!

  2. Hi Tori,

I enjoyed reading about your five faves for the week. Our Bibles are precious Words to us from a loving Father.

I am so glad you have such a good best friend. Isn't it amazing how when we have that precious friend that distance is not an issue...e-mails, phone calls, the written word in letters...they all help to bridge that gap of physical distance, but it is the heart and spirit that connects us!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. We do need to be more mindful of our blessings. My 14 year old nephew just returned from a mission trip to Ethiopia where they cleared ground for a high school. He was reminded of how he gripes about going to school when these teenagers are so excited to even think of having a school and they will walk many miles to get there. I know I am not as grateful for my blessings as I should be!!

    1. Arlene, I think we could all do with a trip to Africa. The grass on our side of the fence would look so much greener.

  6. As a former missionary, I understand the missing biological family but having a family where you live. Some of the 'kids' still call me "Aunt". And since none of my children or grandchildren live in the same US state as we do, I know how my parents felt and I also know how important it is to love from far away.
Embrace that warmer weather! And embrace your Bible!

  9. Hi Tori! I can't believe I have missed your blog all this time! I looked at your profile when you joined me but didn't see a blog title... hmmm, blogger.
Anyway, so glad to be here. God is so good in all things! #1 makes me want to shout! There are those in my life that I am praying the same thing. I know He is faithful!
I am in love with my Bible right now. I am enjoing so much the mornings I get to spend reading it and the evenings digging deeper! Hope you have a wonderful weekend and get more line drying days!

  11. I can't believe we're halfway through January already - time is just flying too fast.

Some of the Fridays when I have to actually search for five good things to share are the best times because they remind me that they ARE there.

Your #1 is amazing. We're praying similarly for some of our loved ones and loved ones of friends - this is encouragement that the same can happen for them.

It's wonderful to have friendships that carry through the years and the miles.

How neat to have a warm spell in your winter!

Grandma Agatha sounds like a lot of fun.

The Bible is such a treasure trove, especially as it comes directly from God to us.

  12. Such wonderful blessings, Tori! God is so good. Thanks for the encouragement today. As I was cleaning a bathroom sink this morning (again! It seems to need it every day!) I was thinking how tired I got of doing that particular job. Instantly the Lord brought to my mind how thankful I should be to have a home, never mind a bathroom and a bathroom sink. So many people don't have that. And I should be thankful too for my hubby's job that gets his hands so dirty that they mess up the sink. And for my hubby himself ... I could go on and on. Maybe there's a blog post in that -- "Lessons from a dirty sink"?

Thanks again for sharing. Have a wonderful weekend!
