Sunday Review Monday

I'm seriously gonna have to change the title for this post cause apparently my weekends are more eventful than my Sundays. Actually, I am always very careful about taking photos at church and so I don't have any. Anyhow, this weekend was super busy. We had church Thursday, which is our normal mid-week, then two weddings, a SS Christmas party and then church yesterday.

We started off with Senad and Anna Marija getting hitched on Friday. It was our pleasure to be the kum and kuma (best man and lady) for them. Johnny also preformed the ceremony.

They had a delicious spread of pig and all the sides. Couldn't help but get Johnny gnawing on a leg.

Things are done a bit differently here in Croatia when in comes to getting married. The government has the right to marry and only churches that they give that right to can legally marry people. Sadly we, (independent Baptist) aren't recognized by the government so we can't marry. So we go to the Justice of the Peace to get the young'uns legal and then we have a ceremony before God and loved ones at the church.

Roberto and Danijela are a sweet young couple and we were honored to be their best man and lady too. I'm excited to see what God is going to do with them and their lives for His glory.

We had a great time fellow-shipping with dear friends and loving on little sweet ones. This little lady is Megi, she is the national pastor's youngest and I super-love her. Oh yea and the lovely young lady with us and my sweet daughter Hannah, she's lovely on the outside but lovelier inside.

We had some great services on Sunday also. Sunday morning Hannah's SS class had their Christmas party and we had a ball playing games and doing a Jesus ornament craft. I was so busy I forgot to take pictures which is a bummer cause the kiddos were so cute playing our silly games.

That afternoon the men headed to Krsanec for the Gypsy meeting. I wasn't allowed to go this time cause there's been a little trouble in the village concerning the Baptist church. Apparently right after our new sign was placed on the church building someone took a photo of it and took it to the local priest. The priest was so angry that he told the Gypsy man to make known that until the Baptist church was gone he wouldn't baptize any more of their babies. This is a village of way over 5000 people and until we're gone the priest has decided to punish the village. He's using this whole thing to insight the people to drive us out. It's unreal that he would use such manipulation to accomplish his will. So with Johnny not knowing what was waiting for us at the next meeting I was left home.
The men were pleasantly surprised to feel no opposition in the village and have one of the best meetings yet. God is working in the lives of these people. Please pray for protection and longevity of the work in Krsanec. These people deserve the chance to know the truth and make an educated decision about their eternity. BTW, 20+ precious souls have accepted Jesus in those meetings and we're not going anywhere!!!

We had church again at the city church that night and then we headed home to watch the Cowboys slaughter the Colts. Johnny is a long time forever fan of the Cowboys. He's stuck with them through thick and lots of thin. I'm so glad they're finally doing something to be proud of if only to make Johnny smile.

Anyhow, that was our weekend. I loved it but I'm glad it's over. Today we're headed to the capital again to have Hannah's stitches removed and then we're gonna spend the evening in Zagreb and enjoy all their winter and Advent festivities. They'll be lights and artisans, donuts and bread sticks, coffee and hot cider and we'll be there to enjoy it. So looking forward to sharing that with you soon.

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas week!

  1. God bless you as you two do God's work there! I'm so glad that the young couple had such a nice ceremony with their brothers and sisters in the Lord after their legal ceremony. I'm thankful that the gypsy meeting went well. Isn't it wonderful how God goes before us to prepare the way? Have a blessed Christmas.

  3. Weddings are always so much fun...no matter the customs. We have a nephew getting married in May and I am looking forward to the trip to Memphis to celebrate. We are just about ready for Christmas here. We visited my mother and sisters in North Georgia. We went to church with my sister and we were able to hear my niece sing in the cantata, Bethlehem Morning was the title. Hoping to get some more goodies made today! Only three more days!!

  10. It's so interesting to hear all the cultural differences that get in the way with even a marriage ceremony. I enjoy reading all your posts like this.
