My Missionary "Dom" Tour Part 2

Okay so part 2 of my "Dom" ("home" in Croatian in case you didn't see part 1) tour is my bedroom. When we moved into the house we had to do some changing up to do to make it us. This is what the bedroom looked like when we arrived.

This is actually a photo from the ads where we found the house but that's what it looked like.

The room is so small and with the slanted ceiling we were worried about painting a dark color but we went with it. We wanted something cozy so we went with aubergine or eggplant for us Americans. I liked it!! I was worried and our friends thought we were crazy but it lends a very nice, cozy (perfect description) feeling.
Last year Johnny and I made the gray (is it gray or grey? someone help me please!) upholstered headboard and it's great! It was really pretty easy and makes a great finish to our bed. Since we were so limited with space we decided to take these little storage blocks from IKEA (yep, I love the place) and mount them to the wall so they didn't take up any floor space. They have a black upholstered box in them and it's just about enough room for our junk.

Our room is so small that we can't fit a wardrobe or dresser in there so we found this nice 8 cubby cabinet at IKEA and it just fits there and adds some storage. Then I bought these mirrored tiles (IKEA) and added them to the wall across from the bed. The light from the lamps and windows kinda bounce off and make the room feel much larger.

Because it's such a small room there's only room for the basics. I have some of my favorite photos and things in there including some sweet ones Johnny has given me through the years. The one on the left is a sweet Croatian poem painted on glass that Johnny had made for me by a lady in Samobor. The one on the right was from our 15th anniversary and it's a song that Johnny wrote, played and sang for me. My favorite song in the world!

Lest I forget my sweet little Build-a-Bear Johnny gave me years ago and no he doesn't have a name. any suggestions? He does have the sweetest message when you squeeze his hand and every once in a while, rarely, hardly ever, seldom, when I'm angry at Johnny I squeeze it and remember how awesome he is!

So that's where I snooze! I know it's small but I love it. God provided just what I needed and now it's just what I wanted.

Just in case you  missed Part 1 of my "Dom" Tour

  1. I love dark colors myself Tori and I think your room looks like just the place to settle down with a good book before retiring for the day!! Great Job!! As for a name for Mister Bear, I am not too good at that but maybe another reader will come up with one for you.

  3. I love your room! Thanks for sharing pics. :-)

    As to the "gray" question: I read that the American spelling is "grAy" and the English (European) spelling

  4. Beautiful! ...and have to share a little story -- we have a matching bear! It's a long story, but my daughter (Little H) went to Build-a-Bear to build "her" bear and sadly whimpered all the way home that she didn't like her bear that she had just made. I had this same matching bear to yours on my hope chest and offered it to Little H and it since has been become her bear and companion and joins her in homeschool every day. {You can see her picture in my sidebar w/the bear and if you care to see some school posts with the bear following along -- http://mudpuddlesoup.blogspot.com/search/label/Little%20Hands%20to%20Heaven }

    Thank you for sharing and reminding me a memorable moment today :)

  6. I adore your room! So cozy and yet the mirrors and window make it look bigger.

    Our bedroom curtains are a similar color to your wall color and we also have a bear on our bed. I felt it was silly to put him there but hubby likes him! Glad we are not the only ones with stuffed bears ...

  8. Love the room colors! I like the deep rich colors in a bedroom because of the homey and cozy feel it gives. A dark burgundy color is in the bedroom of the house we are trying to sell in Missouri. BTW I think your bear looks like an Orville! He just looks like a little farmer! lol

    Tori, Your room looks so cozy and warm. I adore the eggplant color. I have a niece about your age whose bedroom/bath is this color. I love how you creatively provided storage in a small space and the mirrors do make the room look bigger. As for the precious and beloved bear, how about "Medo" which is Croatian for Teddy Bear!!!!! (no, I did not know that - had to look it up! lol)

  12. Love what you did! You were brave to go with the dark color, but it is GREAT! I really like the rest of the ways you put everything together, especially the mirrors. Terrific bedroom!
