A Bucket List

We were lying in bed the other night and I was talking as usually and Johnny was pretending to be listening as usual. I asked him if there was anything he wanted to do before he died.[[[[I know we aren't near death or anything but we're near 40 and that's pretty close]]]] He said there weren't any things he really wanted to do that he hadn't already done. I was like, "are you kidding?". He didn't want to do anything he hadn't? Nothing?
So I roll over and tell him that I so want to do somethings before I die. I have some things that roll around in the back of my mind, some things I would love to experience just one, just so I can say I did.

Anyhoo, the next day we picked up the Holcomb Family at the airport and on the way home we started talking and the same subject came up. I asked her is she wanted to do anything that she hadn't. She said, "Yea, I have a bucket list." I was like, "what is a bucket list?" She informed me that a bucket list was a list of stuff you want to do before you kick the bucket. NEVER heard of it before but it was basically the same as what I was talking to Johnny about. A list of things to do before you die.

Now let me say for you super spiritual people out there. I know that the only things that will last are the things we do for Christ, I know that but as we're passing through this pilgrimage of ours who says we can't have fun? I mean come on, laughing is one of the most incredible gifts God gave us so He obviously wanted us to enjoy ourselves.

So I've been thinking about what items would be on my Bucket List. What do I want to do before I'm too old to do them? What would I like to see or what great activity would thrill me? Well my list isn't long but it's a beginning.

Tori's 2010 BUCKET LIST

1. I would like to skydive!
2. I would love to see Istanbul, Turkey. Don't ask me why, I dunno.
3. I think I would love to bungee jump.
4. I would love to hike to the top of one of the mountains in the Swiss Alps.
5. Wanna go white water rafting.
6. Would love to learn to ski.
7. I would love to see a musical on Broadway.
8. Would love to go on a trail ride in Texas.
9. Wanna see Big Ben and make the guard laugh.
10. I wanna see the Holy Land, just once.
11. I would love to visit a missionary in Africa.
12. Wanna kiss my husband on our 50th anniversay.

Okay so that's my Bucket List. Obviously many of those will be a little challenging in a skirt so some creative modesty would be needed but I think they are totally possible. I know they're just things, happenings in an eternity but I wanna do them. I don't think I'll be sad or disappointed if I don't make it to all 12 but I can dream. The only one that is a must is number 12. If I have nothing else in this life or experience anything new, I still have the love of my husband who makes life fun and exciting every day. Yea, I wanna make it to number 12, at least!!

So the Bucket List was new to me but is it new to you? Have you thought about a Bucket List? Do you have some things in life your heart desires to do?

Go ahead and share them with us, please!!

  1. Good Morning, Tori! I have a few things on my bucket list... I would love to visit England and Germany (actually many places in Europe).

I would like to go on a cruise with our youngest daughter before she is all grown up and flown the nest (she's 18)

Those are top on my list :)

    Nice visiting with you,
    Kindly, ldh

Silly post typical of a teenager, not a lady in the mission field.

  3. So, you're a daredevil in a skirt, huh? Bungee jumping, sky diving... I don't think that stuff's for me, lol! But, I would love to go para sailing (so tame and lame compared to your wishes, lol).

I'd also love to be here for our 50th anniversary, too... but then we'd be 70, and I don't know if I want Jesus to wait that long to come back, hehehe. We're just getting to our 5th in May :o)

I've seen a musical on stage once (we saw White Christmas last year), but it wasn't Broadway. I would really love to see an opera/play while wearing a fancy dress (my hubby in a sharp suit/tux) in a big theatre.

The one thing I'd really like to do next, though, is just have this baby without a c-section and maybe even with no drugs... that would be an incredible answer to prayer, and an awesome thing to accomplish (in my opinion, at least). :o)

  5. Dear Anonymous,

Those are pretty sharp words from someone not brave enough to share their actual identity.

Sorry you are so bitter, maybe you should get right about that!

    Have a great day!

  8. Dear Anonymous,
Haven't you ever heard that if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all? What did Tori ever do to you? PS There are other blogs if this one doesn't fit your taste!

  9. There is NOTHING wrong with having dreams - go for it Tori:)

Only yesterday someone explained to me what a bucket list was and now I am reading one!!! I must dream up some things I would like to do - we all should have goals. Mine would not involve any air or height activities !! but a cruise would be nice, to travel overseas and visit the polar bears in their home territory.

God Bless (and yes, even Christians are meant to laugh and have fun)

  10. Hey, Tori! Actually, the only thing on my bucket list right now is to get through chemo and stay on the mission field. I am NOT as brave as you! Bungee jumping!!!??? NOT in my wildest dreams! I am too chicken!
PS. Thanks for stopping by and leaving me a note!

  11. I love your list.....but I will not do anything that involves "Heights".

Having babies made me scared of everything.

I'll be on the ground cheering you on!

    (Anonymous is clueless....ignore them!)

  12. Tori, I'll not comment on my bucket list cuz I'll post my own. I have had one for some time now. I share some of yours! Anonymous needs to wake up. Any woman on the mission field is living beyond the average person's realm already! I cheer every missionary lady willing to follow their husband or go singly to a foreign field where they give up many comforts and customs they are used to in the U.S. Some people don't know how to dream!

  14. Hello Miss Tori!
We just had a missionary come to our church (LBC Wylie)over Christmas time and he said that some Christians need to "pour some sugar into their spirits"....just like "anonymous" needs to do!!!
    Stay Happy in Christ!

  15. LOL, you know I'll have to make a bucket list now, right??

    Let's see for your #:
    1.no way!
2.I would like that too...because it's fun to say and I like eating turkey.
    3. NOPE!
    4. That would be awesome. Can you imagine the beauty?
    5. done it
    6. done it..it was fun.
    7. yeah...depending on the musical. If they ever did Seven Brides for Seven Brothers I'd be there in a NEW YORK minute!
    8. That would be so much fun!
    9. Would love to do that too. Good luck with the guard thing.
    10. Oh yes, I have ALWAYS wanted to see the Holy Land also.
    11. I would love to visit a missionary anywhere! We had friends at our former church that did that every other year. They would pray about a missionary on our church list and they would go see them and take them things they knew would be appreciated. Such a sweet thing to do!! I always admired that and would love to be able to do that!!!
    12. Awww....me too. Well, not your husband. My husband. :)
