Way too many spices!

That's what I usually have in my cabinets, way too many spices. I'm sure I'm the only one who does this but I always forget what I have and then end up buying more of the same stuff. So I took inventory and made a little list so I would always know what I have and what I need. I can just look at a recipe and then check the list to see what I have. Anyhow, it works for me.

I actually forgot to take a before picture so just take my word for it, it was messy!

***edited to say:
Rhonda in OK,
No we can't get these brands of spices here in Croatia. We have been here for 8 years and so I have brought them back little by little.

Nina,
Every time I go to the states I bring back some cans of non-fat cooking
spray, they last a long time if you go sparingly!

Everyone,
I have so many cream of tarters because we had a group of people come once and they wanted a list so I gave them one and they all brought a little of each thing, so I got about 10 cream of tarters. So, if you have any unusual ways to use the COT, please let me know!

  4. What a great idea! Just today as I was getting my grocery list together, I had to rummage around looking for certain spices. What a pain!

  6. This is a great tip, Tori!

LOL, do you really have that many jars of cream of tartar?! Well, you can make a ton of snickerdoodles at least... be sure to send some my way! ;o)

I guess I should be thankful for our small pantry/cabinets; my spices can't get lost, LOL!

  7. My spices were always a mess too. Then Bruce made me a spice caddy for my cabinet and I love it!

  8. That is a great idea. I am going to do that. I have just cleaned out my spice cabinet. I am so ashamed at how many I had to throw away because they were hid and I had forgotten that I had them. I had so many of the same ones too. I had some that were so old they were no longer any good. so, I now have a neat spice cabinet but I don't want the same thing to happen again over the next months so I will use the idea that you provided and I thank you very much. connie

Ps. your cabinest look very neat also.

  9. Wow! That is ALOT of cream of tartar! I'm so basic and boring. I have this fantastic cinnamon blend from the pampered chef, it meets alot of needs. :) I guess my favorite would have to be Lawry's Seasoned Salt. I use it alot.

  10. I am curious, can you buy these brands of spices in Croatia or did you bring them with you?

I like to keep a lot of spices too, my DH smokes meat and likes homemade rub that uses a lot of spices.

And ever since the Y2K preparations, I keep at least 4 boxes of salt on hand. DH really likes salt on his food so I reason that even if we have very sparse food because of some disaster, at least he will have some salt for it.

  12. Tori,

My mom always used a little cream of tarter in her homemade pancake syrup. It keeps it good longer.

PS Good luck getting rid of that Cream of tarter by the way.

  13. The only thing I use cream of tartar for is making play dough. I wouldn't have a clue what else you use it for. :v)
    Great idea for the list!

  14. You can make homemade play dough with Cream of Tartar, but I guess your kids are too big for that! :)

  15. Loved the post. My husband may not appreciate another idea of how I can transform his former bachelor abode! Nina in Portugal said that she misses Pam. Pampered Chef sells a spray bottle that you put oil into, pump, and spray. Not as good as Pam, but better than nothing.
