YOU KNOW YOU ARE IN TEXAS IN AUGUST WHEN.

1. The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground

2. The trees are whistling for the dogs

3. The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance

4. Hot water now comes out of both taps

5. You can make sun tea instantly

6. You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron

7. The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly

8. You discover that in August it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car

9. You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window

10. You actually burn your hand opening the car door

11. You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m

12. Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, 'What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death

13. You realize that asphalt has a liquid state

14. The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper

15. Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs

16. The cows are giving evaporated milk

Ah, what a place to call home.. .
God Bless The Lone Star State of Texas................

  3. 17. You have to take an ice chest with you to the grocery store so that your cold stuff doesn't spoil on the trip home. (I really do have to do that one)

On #9, I've had that happen more than once. hahaha

  4. So true... except for now, when today's high is in the 70's7! :) Can you believe it? It's been rainy and cool the past week and it's lasting at least another week. Texas in August - it's wonderful! hehehe!

  6. That's cute.

I've seen the same type deal with my home state of Alabama. All of those could apply too!

  9. I can personally vouch for numbers 4, 7, and 11. I still remember how shocked I was when we moved here to Vancouver (in August!) and I turned on the cold water - and it was actually cold! Wes and I have often remarked how cool 95 can feel after a month of 100+ temps. We were always so relieved when it got back down to the 90s! And as for #11 - we were like that this weekend up here. Except it was in the house as well as outside - no A/C!!!

    This was fun!

  10. Being in Texas in August myself I can say for sure that not only is this very funny, but it's true lol :) You CAN get a sunburn though your car window! And hot water does indeed come out of both taps.

    Gotta love Texas!

  11. LOL! I totally relate.

I remember riding my bike in the summer time, and we would run over those bubbles of tar on the asphalt to pop them.

  12. Absolutely true! Except that right now we are having some blessed and very welcome relief in the form of rain every day lately. It's a wonderful break from all the heat. (And my flowers and trees are so grateful!)

  14. Um, I don't know how to tell you this, but I think you mistitled it. It's actually how to know you're in KUWAIT in MAY! ;)

Then it just gets worse until August and stays that way through September.

  16. Too funny! I cannot relate to that kind of heat. I'm baking when it's barely 82*F. If you put me into 105* I'd probably melt into a huge puddle.

  17. Let me tell you, those are all true of living in Florida, too!

    Cute!
