Tipping at Sonic???

Well I don't do this much but I can't help myself. My latest frustration is tipping, I mean really. I think after being in Croatia for so long where people seldom tip, I must be out of practice. Now don't get me wrong, we tip for good service.

My problem is that the tipping rules have changed. My sister-in-law and I were at Sonic (for you notherners, only the best drink stop around) and after we got our food my sister-in-law asked me "Aren't you going to tip him?" What???? Tip the Sonic Guy, you gotta be kidding. Guess what, she wasn't. Apparently while we were in Croatia the last 7 years, the tipping rules have changed.

Another instance happened today, we're at the motel and we were eating at the continental breakfast and right there on the cabinet, there it was the tip bucket. Okay come on, since when do we tip the woman who cleans and stocks the breakfast bar? She didn't even refill my juice so why would I tip her?

Well I'm putting my foot down, no more tipping unless I think the server deserves it. I'm not going to be bullied into tipping the drive through worker at the local StarBucks just for reaching through the window and handing me my $5 coffee. NO!!! I mean it to.

Please don't think I'm being mean, hey I appreciate good service as much as the next gal but enough is enough. I'm sorry mr. roller skate guy at Sonic, I can't, NO, I refuse to tip you for what you already get paid for. Hey by the way, why would I tip when my order is almost always wrong??? I ask you and leave it with you. ;0}

The Leslies hit D.C.

Since we were near Washington this week for a meeting so we decided to take the kids to see D.C. We drove into Springfield and parked the van and took the Metro to the National Mall. Talk about a confusing town, where are all the street signs anyways???? Finally we managed to find the Metro station with the one Metro sign we saw, what a frustrating time, but we enjoyed Washington, so it was worth the trouble.

Hope you enjoy the pics.

The Washington Monument, we got there and then close to the long line of people waiting to get into the memorial was a sign that read "Tickets can be bought at kiosk on 15th street. To top it off it was burning hot out there at least mid 90s. So needless to say, we didn't go up in the monument, maybe next time.
The Lincoln Memorial, it was so hot out there we had to fight the desire to jump in that water.

The White House, sadly we couldn't see it so well and by the way we made it that way we were to pooped to walk down there to see it, so this is as close as we got. Oh well George wasn't exactly waiting for us.

The United States Capitol building.

Me and my honey.

Cody, Joshua and Hannah on the National Mall.

My favorite part of the Smithsonian was all the old stuff, well it was a musem and it was all old, but you know what I mean the neat old stuff. These are the original Ked tennis shoes that Timmy wore on Lassie, pretty cool huh?

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor, would you be mine????? Yep, that's Mr. Rogers sweater.

The writing desk that Thomas Jefferson used to pen the Declaration of Independence.

Yep, those famous ruby slippers that Dorothy wore to OZ, I love that show and please don't write me and tell me it has witchcraft in it. Okay! :0)

Oh wow, this is the actual top hat that Lincoln had on when he was shot, how cool is that???

My son Joshua took this picture and though it was an interesting question, see if you can figure it out, the femal "toilet" is on the left. Hmmm

The actualy Apollo landing craft, wow, wow, wow!!!

I have no idea who this is, but he was a pretty cool looking guys, so we took his pic. If you know, please let me know, thanks!

Okay this is my favorite picture of all the ones I took. We walked around the corner and we were in the Insect area. They had all kinds of insects you could hold, including 4 inch cock roaches. What was funny is that the section was funded by Orkin, you know the folks who make it their buisness to kill insects. He He He!!!
This angered me along with pretty much at least 75% of all I saw at the Smithsonian. This sign was in the animal area and let me guarantee you that NONE of my reletives were there.
The devil has really thought this thing out. If he can convince the world that we came from animals then they can easily say that since we weren't born from Adam we don't have a sin nature and without sin, who needs a Savior. Man that devil is sly.
Just a picture of the foyer of the Smithsonian.

I just thought this was a really cool picture, those are my boys.

Okay I know this picture isn't so clear but I want to put it on my wish list for anyone who has any extra money lying around and wants to be a blessing to a missionary wife. :o)
This is the 42 kt Hope diamond.

My Hannah girl.

The Smithsonian Natural History Museum.

The Smithsonian Information Castle, oh yea and my kids down there.

Photographer?

I really like to take pictures and here are a few I took that I like. I love B&W's. I liked how the foreground on this one is in focus and how the background on the other one is in focus. Don't know how I did it though. :0)

I really like black and whites. I'm planning on blowing some pictures up and taking them to Croatia and framing them.

I love this one, the background is so nice.

My tuff looking kiddos, they're really push overs.

Oh well thought I would share those, just because. :0)

New Glasses???

So what'cha think??

Fossil Rim Wildlife Park

Well one of the perks of traveling is getting to see lots of stuff. While traveling down in Texas we got to take the kids to Fossil Rim Wildlife Park, a drive through safari park. We had such a good time and the kids loved seeing all the animals. So I thought I would post some for you all to see, the ortriche is my favorite, he (or at least I think it was a he) didn't know he wasn't suppose to get into our car with us.
I took a picture of the family outside the office of the park, I sure do love 'em!!

Isn't she pretty???

Lunch at the park, those were good sandwiches.

I know you were waiting to see this invasive guy, isn't he cute in an ugly sorta way?

The Zebras weren't so friendly but I managed this picture.

This was my favorite, this giant of an animals was so gentle. That's my son Joshua, he was the only child who had enough guts to feel the Giraffe.

I just really love flora and this cactus was so pretty.

Rhino, he was behind bars, so that was nice.

Me and the kiddos, aren't the flowers pretty?

I thought this dear was so pretty and hungry.

The kids on one of the bridges at the park.

This is the way we do furlough....

This is the way we do furlough, do furlough, do furlough,
this is the way we do furlough, every single day.

Well I've not been a very good blogger have I, I'm ashamed! Time is flying by, we are in the beautiful state of Georgia and I mean it's really pretty, I had no idea Georgia was so green.

We've been to LA, MS, AL, TX, MI, IA, IN, OH, OK, KS and we still have SC, VA, FL, NM, and then finally back to Texas. I think I'm aging prematurly. We have been blessed to meet some really nice folks and we've been treated like royalty.

The longer we're here in the states the more I want to go home (Croatia). I miss my people and my kids especially. I really never thought it would become home to me but I'm pleasantly surprised that it finally has. I realized the other night that I miss it even more than I knew, I was dreaming of meeting Croatians and we were chatting and eating mlinci (a croatian noodle like stuff) and drinking stout black coffee.
I woke up with such a sad feeling that we weren't there. But all in God's timing, I know. I'll do my best to enjoy life right now where God has us.

I can't exactly talk about what I'm doing in my Home Away From Home since I don't really have one, we're living from motel room to prophets chamber so I'm not doing alot of house keeping. I did however have some time to sew a bit. I made my daughter some new culottes. I have the easiest box pleat culotte pattern from Quick Stitches and I made her 5 new pairs.

Anyhow, that's about the extent of my craftiness or house keeping, I can't wait to get back to my own four walls with my things around. Actually when we go back we'll be getting a different house which will be fun, I like the decorating possibilities.

Well there isn't much unusual going on with us, lots of meetings and traveling. Oh I have some pictures, maybe I'll post those later.

Have a great Tuesday night all!!!
